Overview

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines. CPR is a lifesaving technique and can sustain life until an ambulance arrives.

Course Duration and Mode of Delivery

• 3 hours of online learning with an online assessment 4 hours face to face training with practical assessment

There are no pre-requisites to undertake this unit

Course Content

This course will provide participants with skills and knowledge in the following areas:

• Recognise and assess an emergency situation.
• Ensure safety for self, bystanders, and casualty.
• Assess the casualty and recognise the need for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
• Seek assistance from emergency services.
• Perform CPR in accordance with the ARC guidelines.
• Display respectful behaviour towards casualty.
• Operate an automated external defibrillator (AED) according to manufacturers’ instructions.
• Accurately convey incident details to emergency services.
• Report details of incident in line with appropriate workplace or site procedures.
• Maintain privacy and confidentiality of information in line with statutory or organisational policies.
• Recognise the possible psychological impacts on self and other rescuers and seek help when required.
• Contribute to a review of the first aid response as required.

Outcomes

Participants who successfully complete this unit will receive a statement of attainment for HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Statements of attainment are issued electronically within 5 business days after successful completion of the training.

The Australian Resuscitation Council recommends that cardiopulmonary resuscitation skills are refreshed on an annual basis

Pre-Course Learning

All pre-course learning material is available online via our LMS. Participants must have access to a computer, phone, tablet etc with access to the internet to complete the pre-course online learning materials and assessment.

Participants must have completed the pre-course learning materials and assessment before attending the practical training session.

Participants who have not completed the online learning competent will not be issued with a statement of attainment until such time as they have completed the online component.

Target Group

This course is designed for:

• Those with existing first aid experience
• Participants who are new to first aid and comfortable learning in a blended delivery setting

Entry Requirements

Students must have the physical ability to provide resuscitation by kneeling on the floor and performing at least two minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult and infant manikin.

The minimum entry age for students undertaking this unit is 14 years of age. Students under the age of 18 years will be required to provide a signed parental consent (located on the enrolment form) prior to attending the course.

Unique Student Identifier (USI)

Every student requires a Unique Student Identifier (USI) to obtain a certificate or qualification from their registered training organisation when studying a nationally recognised training course in Australia.

A USI gives you access to an online account which keeps all your training records together, even if you move locations, change training organisations or undertake studies at different times in your life.

When booking your course, you are required to provide Australian Community and Management College with your USI either via the section on your enrolment form or in person on the day of the course.
