Course Description

This qualification reflects the role of workers in a range of community services and clients’ homes, who provide training and support in a manner that empowers people with disabilities to achieve greater levels of independence, self-reliance, community participation and wellbeing.

Workers promote a person-centred approach, work without direct supervision and may be required to supervise and/or coordinate a small team.

Delivery Mode

Currently this qualification is being offered online only during the current COVID-19 crisis with arrangements for the required 120 of work placement to be organised with students on an individual basis to ensure the health and safety of the student participating. 

Course Duration

This qualification is delivered over a period of 6 – 12 months online self-paced study. The course is self-paced, so the hours of study vary from student to student and are influenced by many factors including the amount of time students can dedicate to their studies.

Entry Requirements

• 18 years of age or over at time of enrolment
• Satisfactorily completed Year 12 or equivalent
• Access to a computer with word processing, PDF reader capabilities and an internet connection
• Ability to read and comprehend course materials
• Ability to allocate appropriate study hours per week
• Access to suitable work placement clothing is required. i.e., black pants, white polo shirt and leather (or leather like) fully enclosed shoes with non-slip soles.

Pre-Requisites

There are no pre-requisites for entry into this qualification. 

Australian Community and Management College recommends that students complete CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) prior to enrolment.

This qualification consists of 11 core units and 3 elective units:

CHCDIS008	Facilitate community participation and social inclusion

CHCDIS010	Provide person-centred services to people with disability with complex needs
CHCDIV001	Work with diverse people
CHCLEG003	Manage legal and ethical compliance
HLTAAP001	Recognise healthy body systems
HLTWHS002	Follow safe work practices for direct client care

Elective Units

HLTWHS005	Conduct manual tasks safely
HLTHPS006	Assist clients with medication
HLTHPS007	Administer and monitor medications

Outcomes

On successful completion of this qualification students will be able to:

• Provide individualised support
• Provide person-centred services
• Follow established person-centred behaviour supports and provide person-centred services responses
• Work with diverse people and manage legal and ethical compliance
• Follow safe work practices

Successful completion of this qualification the student will receive a CHC43315 Certificate IV in Disability.

For partial completion of this qualification, students will be issued with a Statement of Attainment indicating completed Units of Competency.

All certificates, record of results (listing units completed) and statements of attainment are issued electronically within 10 business days of qualification completion.

Work Placement

All students undertaking this qualification are required to complete 120 hours of work placement.

Students will be placed with a host NDIS provider and may be involved in a number of programs as part of their placement including:

• Supported independent living programs
• Short Term accommodation
• Day programs or Community Programs

During work placement student will be required to complete a logbook and undertake assessments whilst on the job.

Work placement provides with the student the opportunity to utilise the skills learnt in the classroom into actual practice.

All students are required to undertake a Working with Children’s Check and must have this in place at the commencement of their work placement.

Depending on the host providers individual requirements students may also be required to undertake a National Police Record and must have this in place before undertaking work placement.

Students will be provided with additional information during their course orientation on work placement and work placement requirements.

Pathways for further education

This qualification provides a pathway for students to continue their studies and enhance their skills through CHC52015 Diploma of Community Services.

Credit Transfer

Students who have previously completed CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) or similar are entitled to credit transfer for the following units:

• CHCCCS015 Provide individualised support
• CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people
• HLTAAP001 Recognise healthy body systems

Granting of credit transfer is conditional upon the supplying of a copy of relevant qualifications record of result and or statements of attainment.

Unique Student Identifier (USI)

Every student requires a Unique Student Identifier (USI) to obtain a certificate or qualification from their registered training organisation when studying a nationally recognised training course in Australia.

A USI gives you access to an online account which keeps all your training records together, even if you move locations, change training organisations or undertake studies at different times in your life. 

When booking your course, you are required to provide Australian Community and Management College with your USI either via the section on your enrolment form or in person on the day of the course.
